Race: The Power of an Illusion

Event details

  • Wednesday | February 12, 2020 to Friday | February 21, 2020
  • All Day

As First Pres works to intentionally be involved with “combating systemic racism both within and outside the church,” the Anti-Racism Task Force that has been gathered to address this area has begun to plan activities to move us along this avenue. One of the first goals is to get a better understanding of systemic racism. PBS has put together a three-part series entitled Race: The Power of an Illusion. We will be offering several opportunities for the congregation to view the first video in the series The Difference Between Us. With the background of a group of high school students attending a DNA Workshop, taught by Scott Bronson of Cold Springs Harbor Labs, we get to hear much about scientific discoveries from microbiologists, biological anthropologists, geneticists and other scientists who have been studying the idea of race. It is a powerful presentation and eye opener. Please mark your calendars for the best opportunity for you to attend one of these showings which will include discussion time.
